Stefan Schweigert was a pupil of Alfred Rinderspacher and later studied with Klaus Thunemann at the Musikhochschule, Hannover. Since 1985 he has been Principal Bassoon of the Berliner Philharmoniker. He has appeared as a soloist with his orchestra, and also with other ensembles including Camerata Bern.
He is a member of Andras Schiff’s 'Cappella Andrea Barca' and has worked on a number of occasions with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and participated in Gidon Kremer’s Chamber Music Festival at Lockenhaus several times. For many years he played in Sabine Meyers wind ensemble, the Scharoun Ensemble Berlin and with different chamber music groups of the Berliner Philharmoniker.
Schweigert has taught at the Berliner Philharmoniker’s Orchestra Academy since 1987 and at the Musikhochschule Freiburg from 2004 to 2006.
