Mariana Espada Lopes

Mariana Espada Lopes was born in 1999 in Portugal, and began the violin at the age of five. She began her violin studies at the Olhão Music Conservatoire with Rui Gonçalves and Nuno Meira

In 2017, Mariana moved to Lisbon to study with Pedro Lopes in the National Conservatoire, where she completed her studies with the maximum grade. From 2016 until 2018, Mariana was member of JOP, Portuguese Youth Orchestra, with which she made tours in Romania and Germany, and where she has been concertmaster and assistant concertmaster. Mariana was also concertmaster of Ensemble Orchestra during the season 2017/2018. In the same year, she was awarded with the 1st price in several competitions, as Vasco Barbosa Strings Competition (with broadcasted concert as a soloist), Montijo National Competition and Fundão International Competition. She is now member of European Union Youth Orchestra, where she had the opportunity of playing in the most famous concerts halls, such as: Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Royal Albert Hall in London, Konzerthaus in Berlin, Grafenegg Wolkenturm, Dubai Opera,  Dresden Frauenkirche, S. Stephan’s Cathedral in Viena, Teatro Comunale Claudio Abbado in Ferrara, Centro Cultural Kirchner in Buenos Aires, among others. Mariana worked with conductors such as Vasily Petrenko, Manfred Honeck, Gianandrea Noseda, Eiji Oue, Peter Stark, Pedro Carneiro, Cesário Costa, and performed as soloist with the Classical Orquestra from the South (OCS) with the conductor Rui Pinheiro and with the Orquestra of the National Conservatoire with the conductor Jan Wierzba. She had masterclasses with Benjamin Schmid, Ulf Schneider, Aníbal Lima, Pedro Meireles and Augusto Trindade. Mariana studied chamber music with Marcus Becker, Stephan Heinemeyer, Peter Stark, Oliver Kipp and Roger Benedict. She is currently studying her bachelor degree in the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien in Hannover in the class of Ulf Schneider.
