Nicholas Hughes is from West Sussex in the UK and is at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he was fortunate enough to have received a scholarship to study with Rachel Roberts.
Nic previously studied at the Royal College of Music with Gaby Lester and Yuri Zhislin. A keen chamber musician, Nic has played for Northern Chords, Southrepps, Aberystwyth and New Generation (Florence) festivals with a focus on chamber reductions of larger orchestral and operatic works. Nic also plays for the Wellhayes chamber music series in Devon as part of the Janus Chamber Ensemble each summer.
He is also a frequent player for the Maiastra Chamber Music Foundation. Orchestrally, he has played with the Orpheus Sinfonia, Covent Garden Sinfonia, Barbican Chamber Orchestra, the Janus Ensemble and the European Union Youth Orchestra and has played with conductors such as Gianandrea Noseda, Vasily Petrenko, Marin Alsop, Manfred Honeck, Martin Brabbyns, and Bernard Haitink.
