Since December 2015 Andrea Bindi is principal timpanist at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan with Riccardo Chailly as musical director.
Born in Italy in 1988 he studied timpani and percussion at the Conservatory in Bolzano. He then attended the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia master courses in Rome. Throughout the years he frequently played with the following orchestras: Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Teatro Regio in Turin, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Bayerische Staatsoper. He played under the baton of conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Daniel Barenboim, Bernard Haitink, Riccardo Chailly, Myung-whun Chung, Fabio Luisi, Alan Gilbert, Paavo Jarvi, Antony Pappano.. He is Adams endorser and teaches timpani at the Teatro alla Scala Academy.
