Ciara Kushner

Born in 1997, Ciara Kushner is an irish-american cellist who grew up in Austria.

Since 2015 she is studying at the Kunstuniversität Graz with Professors Rudolf Leopold and Julian Arp. A passionate chamber musician, she has performed with her quartet at events such as “200 Years Kunstuniversität” in the Musikverein Graz and the opening concert of the „Steirisches Kammermusikfestival“.

They have had lessons with the Carmina Quartet, Reinhard Latzko and Alfred Brendl. She has attended masterclasses with teachers such as Raphael Wallfisch, Claudio Bohorquez, Jerome Pernoo, Marc Coppey, Xenia Jankovic, Christoph Richter and Wen-Sinn Yang. Since 2018 she is a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra and has toured Europe and the Middle East, performing at venues such as the Royal Albert hall for the BBC Proms, the Concertgebow Amsterdam and the Konzerthaus Berlin under the batons of Vasily Petrenko, Gianandrea Noseda and Manfred Honek.

She gained further orchestral experience at the Interlochen center for the arts, as principal cellist of the lower austrian youth orchestra and as a member of the Wiener Jeunesse Orchester. In 2019 Ciara was a recipient of Kunstuniversität Graz’ Ursula Grill scholarship for young cellists.
