Iris van den Bos
Iris (1995) was born in Honselersdijk, the Netherlands. She is currently doing her 2nd year of Masters at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in the United Kingdom with Adrian Spillett, Matthew Hardy, Andrew Herbert, Owen Gunnell and Toby Kearney.
She grew up in a musical family and started playing percussion at the age of 7. She did her Bachelors at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague and during her Bachelors she did an Erasmus Exchange at the Royal College of Music in London. A highlight during this exchange was giving a concert under the baton of Bernard Haitink.
From 2014 till 2017 Iris played all Summer and Winter tours with the Nationaal Jeugd Orkest (National Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands). During her 1st year at Birmingham Iris participated in the NEXT Academy with the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group – BCMG where she worked closely with composers, performed new commissions and played in BCMG as an extra player.
For the 2020/2021 season Iris is an academist with the Budapest Festival Orchestra – BFO where she plays under the baton of Iván Fischer as well as continuing to freelance as a timpanist and percussionist with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra – CBSO. Iris joined EUYO in 2018 and 2019 for the Spring & Summer Tours.
