Sophie Williams

Born in 1999, Scottish-Korean violinist Sophie Williams is currently in her third year of undergraduate studies with professor Gaby Lester at the Royal College of Music in London.

She attended St. Mary’s Music School in Edinburgh, Scotland for 8 years with professors Claire Docherty and Andrea Gajic.

During her studies, Sophie has had opportunities to perform and work with renowned musicians and conductors such as Felix Andrievsky, Arnold Steinhardt, Nicola Benedetti, Maxim Vengerov, Steven Osborne, Manfred Honeck, Gianandrea Noseda and Ilan Volkov. She was also recently invited to participate in Masterclasses at the Barenboim-Said Akademie, Berlin.

As a member of the EUYO since 2018, Sophie has toured throughout Europe, South America, the United Arab Emirates and China. She has performed as concertmaster of the RCM orchestras and made her concerto debut with the Edinburgh Symphony Orchestra performing Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in 2019. She has performed frequently as a soloist and chamber musician in festivals such as the Edinburgh Fringe, Manchester’s International Chamber Music Festival and the Chipping Campden International Music Festival. Sophie has been generously supported by the Dewar Arts Awards and by the Hargreaves and Ball Trust scholarship, supported by the RCM.
