Chris Brewster

Chris is a fourth year scholar at the Royal Academy of Music, studying trombone with Matt Gee and Ian Bousfield, and euphonium/bass trumpet with James Maynard.

As an orchestral musician, Chris has played under the likes of Edward Gardner, John Wilson, Vasily Petrenko, Paul Daniel, Nicholas Collon, Kristjan Järvi, Sir Mark Elder, and François-Xavier Roth. This includes as principal trombone of the RAM symphony orchestra, five BBC Proms and multiple live radio broadcasts with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, and a previous tour with EUYO. He has also recorded Holst’s The Planets and Strauss’ Also Sprach Zarathustra under Edward Gardner for Chandos.

As a keen chamber musician, Chris is a founder member of Connaught Brass, winners of the Philip Jones International Brass Ensemble Competition 2019. Other recent achievements with the ensemble include being selected as Tillett Trust Debut Artists 2020, winning the Worshipful Company of Musicians Brass Ensemble Prize 2018, appearing live on BBC Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’ programme in 2019, and travelling to France in both 2018 and 2019 to perform in a concert series at the Ferrandou Musique Festival. 

As well as being a versatile performer, Chris also enjoys teaching for Hounslow Music Service and undertaking outreach work supported by the Worshipful Company of Musicians. He looks forward to a busy forthcoming season performing at the Wigmore Hall twice, Buxton International Festival, Lake District Summer Music Festival, Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele and at the Lucerne Festival.
