Olivia Høilund-Carlsen Ruud

Danish/Norwegian violinist Olivia Høilund-Carlsen Ruud was born in Oslo, Norway in 1995.

She started playing violin at the age of six with György Horvati and during her last year of high school studied at a pre-college programme at The Norwegian Academy of Music.

She then studied for her bachelor degree in the conservatory of Trondheim, Norway, learning with Bård Monsen (Norwegian Chamber Orchestra) and Anna Gebert (former concertmaster of Trondheim Symphony Orchestra).

She also did an exchange year in Gothenburg, Sweden, at the Academy of Music and Drama with Tobias Granmo. During her studies in Trondheim she worked regularly with the Trondheim Soloists and Trondheim Symphony Orchestra. Olivia is currently on the soloist/chamber music masters programme in Stockholm at Edsberg Manor, Royal College of Music (KMH) studying violin with Per Enoksson (concertmaster of Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra) and chamber music with Mats Zetterqvist (associate member of Chamber Orchestra of Europe). Olivia has been a member of the National Norwegian Youth Orchestra, Ungdomssymfonikerne, since 2014, through which she has worked with many conductors and soloists, including Vasily Petrenko, Eliahu Inbal, Juanjo Mena, Andrew Manze, Christian Vásquez, Truls Mørk, Håvard Gimse, Henning Kraggerud and Thorleif Thedéen.

In 2019 she performed as both concertmaster and associate section leader of the orchestra. Since moving to Stockholm in 2018 Olivia has performed with many professional orchestras in both Norway and Sweden, including The Royal Swedish Opera, Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, Gävle Symphony Orchestra and Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra.
