Beatriz Rodrigues Cortesão

Portuguese harpist, Beatriz Cortesão was born in Coimbra. Thanks to her virtuoso skills, talent and unique personality this young musician has attracted attention of professionals and public across Europe.

Among her solo credits are: harp recitals in Portugal (Lisbon, Coimbra) and Italy (Milan); performance of the Concerto for Harp and Orchestra, Op. 74 of R. Gliere with Orquestra Clássica do Centro (under José Eduardo Gomes) and Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras (under António Vassalo Lourenço). Beatriz has been also collaborating with several orchestras in Portugal and abroad, as the Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras, Orquestra Gulbenkian, Orquestra do Norte, Orquestra Clássica do Sul, Orquestra Clássica do Centro, Orquestra Vigo 430 (Spain).

She was selected as principal harpist of the JOP – Jovem Orquestra Portuguesa (2014 to 2017), and also of the EGO – Estágio Gulbenkian para Orquestra (2019). Beatriz studied the harp since her childhood under the watchfull eyes of Beatrix Schmidt and Erica Versace, followed by a personality shaping experience at the international harp academy HarpMasters, in Switzerland. Currently, Beatriz is a bachelor student in the class of Irina Zingg, at the Civica Scuola di Musica Claudio Abbado, in Milan. She is regularly participating in masterclasses with Petra van der Heide (Principal Harpist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Amsterdam) and Luisa Prandina (Principal Harpist of the Teatro alla Scala Orchestra, Milan).

Beatriz Cortesão is the prize winner of international harp competitions: the IV Moscow Open Youth Competition Mark Rubin (Russia), XXVII Concorso Riviera della Versilia “D. Ridolfi” (Italy), III and IV Concurso de Harpa de Linda-a-Velha (Portugal), among others. In Spring 2020, Beatriz Cortesão will join the European Union Youth Orchestra, be featured artist at the XV Rio Harp Festival (Brazil), and collaborate with Orquestra Gulbenkian (Portugal).
