Austrian tuba player Paul Schrank was born in Graz in 1996. After receiving lessons on trumpet he switched to tuba at the age of 10. He competed his military service in the military music in Styria and began his studies in material science at the Montan Universität Leoben in 2015. In the same year he joined the class of Erich Bendl at the Johann-Joseph-Fux-Konservatorium Graz.
In 2019 Paul started his bachelor’s degree at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Prof. Michael Pircher. Currently he is also studying at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe under the guidance of renowned Tuba teacher Dirk Hirthe.
Paul is an aspiring chamber musician and part of various small ensembles and wind bands. He has performed with different national youth orchestras such as “Wiener Jeunesse Orchester” and “Landesjugendblasorchester Steiermark”. Since 2016 he is a frequent substitute in the “Grazer Philharmonisches Orchester” playing symphonic repertoire, operas and ballets. Paul has been a member of EUYO since 2020.
